SOCRATES - GUILTY OR INNOCENT?

OVER 50
PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, TEACHERS, AND
FRIENDS
JOINED THE ASSEMBLY OF ATHENS TO PARTICIPATE AS JURORS
IN THE 399 BCE TRIAL OF SOCRATES
VIA ZOOM

FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2020
HISTORY IS REWRITTEN!
SOCRATES LIVES!
In all four trials, Socrates was found innocent of all charges.

BASIC INFORMATION
·      The 399 BCE trial of Socrates was re-enacted by the WCS Eighth Grade Ancient History Scholars, with their guests (parents, grandparents, friends, and teachers) participating by casting their votes for the guilt or innocence of the philosopher.
·      The accusers charged Socrates with “corrupting the youth of Athens” and “undermining their religious beliefs.”  Socrates faced death by hemlock if found guilty. The defense rested on Socrates, Plato, and Chaerephon.
·
·      Other students crafted questions for the jury to ask of the speakers, based on their research of the time period, the historical trial, and the hidden issues behind the charges brought against Socrates.
