399 bcE - TRIAL OF SOCRATES
Eighth grade parents and grandparents are invited to join the Assembly of Athens as jurors on April 10 in the MPR.
The 399 B.C. trial of Socrates will be re-enacted by the eighth graders, and their guests will participate by casting their votes.  Socrates has been charged with “corrupting the youth of Athens” and “undermining their religious beliefs.”  Socrates faces death by hemlock if found guilty.  In their carefully crafted chitons and himations the speakers will use their research from Plato’s ApologyCrito, and Phaedo, as well as other sources to sway the jury to their side.
