MOCK TRIAL OF SOCRATES

PRESENTED BY WCS 8TH GRADERS
FRIDAY, april 12, 2019
IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE building

*PARENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AS JURORS
IN THE 399 BCE TRIAL OF SOCRATES
Eighth grade parents are invited to join the Assembly of Athens on April 13 in the MPR. The 399 BCE trial of Socrates will be re-enacted by the eighth graders, and their guests may participate by casting their votes.  The accusers have charged Socrates with “corrupting the youth of Athens” and “undermining their religious beliefs.”  Socrates faces death by hemlock if found guilty.  In their carefully crafted chitons and himations the speakers will use the research they have done from Plato’s Apology, Crito, and Phaedo, as well as other sources to sway the jury to their side.  Other students will record the proceedings as the jurors question each speaker about the hidden issues behind their charges.
