WHAT IS HISTORY?

                1) History is how we know what happened before we have memories
           "What is History?" Video  www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0m3WCVAuG8
           "Big Bang Theory" Video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzbDI1MAlhk
                2) History is a story
                3) History is different for every person in the world.
                4) History is constantly changing
                5) History is fun!
History fulfills our desire to know and understand ourselves and our ancestors
History allows us to experience situations and conditions we could never experience in our own lives, which stimulates imagination and creativity
History gives us a way to walk in others' shoes and empathize with their situations
                  6) History teaches us to look for cause and effect relations, and to recognize the thousands of variables which affect human behavior
                  7) History shows us that one person's decision can change the course of the world, and have   effects in our own time
                  8) History trains students to read intelligently, think critically, and write effectively.
                  9) History does not just include written documents.  It also includes oral communication and objects such as buildings, artifacts, photographs, songs, and paintings. Even markings left on the environment can show us history
                10) History is affected by:
Point of view – the winners write the history books
Perception – culture; religion; age; education; politics; economic level; moral judgments
Propaganda – why is the writer telling the story?  To influence you or change your       mind?
Evidence – or lack of evidence – or new evidence – or evidence that is lost

                                Errors – PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES!
